France has announced the immediate withdrawal of all its diplomatic personnel from Burkina Faso, the foreign ministry confirmed, following the military‑led government’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with its former colonial ruler. French officials have also instructed Burkina Faso’s diplomatic staff to depart the country by July 6. Veteran correspondent Laurent Berstecher reflects on four years of increasingly hostile ties.
