Former CMLL wrestler and booker Franco Colombo, whose real name was Javier Esparza Coronado, has died at the age of 73, his family confirmed.
His niece broke the news on Facebook, stating: “Today, a legend passed away, my uncle Javier Esparza Coronado. I ask for your prayers for the whole family. My uncle was very loved by everyone. When we were little, we enjoyed taking walks together as a family. God has called him to his side; he is now with my father in heaven. We will always remember you, Uncle. Say hi to everyone who has gone before us.”
Trained by Diablo Velasco, Coronado competed for CMLL during its EMLL era beginning in the 1970s. He captured the Mexican Welterweight Title in late 1980 and held it for 92 days before losing it in 1981.
After leaving CMLL in the late 1980s, he returned in a backstage role and as part of talent development until his departure over a reported pay cut in 2021.
