Fred Again.. and LATIN MAFIA Kick Off Live Mixtape Creation in Mexico City

Fred Again.. and LATIN MAFIA have launched a livestream to collaboratively produce a new mixtape, vowing to continue the broadcast until the project is fully completed.

The British producer and the Mexican sibling trio reunited in Mexico City to finalize a joint endeavor that has been in development on and off for the past two years.

Their YouTube stream, titled ‘making a mixtape with latin mafia and staying here until we finish it’, commenced at 1pm local time today (July 28), corresponding to 8pm BST.

“Me and the Latin Mafia brothers have been working on music for many moons now,” Fred stated when announcing the initiative. “They are making some of my favourite music in the world right now. It’s so beautiful but surprising but contained but adventurous.”

Fred also emphasized the familial dynamics of their partnership. LATIN MAFIA comprises brothers Emilio, Milton, and Mike de la Rosa, while the British artist regularly collaborates with his younger brother and is also managed by a sibling.

“They’re three brothers and I make music with my little brother as well, so it’s just five brothers every time we get together,” he continued. “And we’re both managed by our siblings too! So yeah, proper family affair.”

Fred explained that the material they developed together rapidly coalesced into a single, unified project.

“It was mad how quickly everything we made felt like it was naturally part of the same world,” he said. “Sometimes I find I have to really work hard to make things feel like a contained universe, but in this case everything that came out just naturally felt like one thing to us all.”

“So we wanna put it all out as one project. We’ve decided to get together in their home of Mexico City to finish it all.”

LATIN MAFIA noted that Fred’s “honest and sensitive” approach to sound has long served as a major inspiration for the group, adding that their creative chemistry felt immediate and natural from the start.

“When we met, it simply made sense because of the way we share so many things when creating,” they said in a statement translated from Spanish.

“It has been a couple of years since we first got together to work on music, and every time we have been in the same space, it feels like we have been friends forever.”

They further added: “We want to share with you what we have created together over this time. So we will get together in Mexico City to finish this project and broadcast the whole process non-stop until it is finished and out for you.”

This announcement follows the release of Under The Fabric (Mexico City, 11th December 2025), a new 35-minute film chronicling an improvised session between the artists last December.

The recording took place beneath an installation by Dutch visual artist Boris Acket prior to Fred’s ‘USB002’ performance in Mexico City, where LATIN MAFIA subsequently joined him on stage. The film debuted for attendees at Mexico City’s Cine Tonalá last week before going live online on Sunday (July 26).

LATIN MAFIA released their debut album ‘Todos Los Días Todo El Día’ in 2024. The trio blends pop, R&B, reggaeton, trap, and electronic music, citing Fred as a prominent influence on their sound.

Fred’s Mexico City concert was part of the international ‘USB002’ tour, during which he collaborated with a diverse array of artists including Thomas Bangalter, Underworld, Mike Skinner, Nia Archives, Romy, Ezra Collective, Young Thug, and Jamie T.

In a four-star review, NME characterized ‘USB002’ as “a flow state of impulsive floor-fillers,” adding: “The common thread of ‘USB’ seems to be an eternal state of flux, where all limits and shackles are off.”

Earlier this year, Fred published a continuous 108-hour mix capturing the entirety of the ‘USB002’ tour, alongside the creative files utilized throughout the project.

He is next scheduled to embark on his first tour of India, with performances in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru this December. These dates currently represent his only planned live appearances of the year.
