Jermaine Eluemunor characterizes himself as a simple man, yet his journey to inspire is far from simple. Spanning from London to New York, he stands as a formidable athlete endowed with a generous spirit and a resonant message.
As an offensive tackle for the Giants, he engages in playful dress-up and hosts pretend tea parties with his daughters, embodying the role of a devoted father during the week. On weekends, he confronts the league’s elite athletes with formidable strength. Off the field, he finds tranquility in fishing and immersion in anime, while on it, he excels in the physical demands of his position.
Eluemunor has overcome transatlantic obstacles, dismissed early setbacks, and risen from profound mental health challenges to establish himself as one of Britain’s most distinguished football exports and a premier NFL player in his position.
Life has not always followed this trajectory. He now hopes his narrative can dispel the notion of impossibility.
It was around this time in 2007 when Eluemunor first discovered football, stumbling upon the inaugural NFL regular-season game held in London as the Giants faced the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium. Nearly two decades later, he starts for the team where it all began—a franchise that rewarded his impact with a $39 million contract extension last offseason and entrusted him with a captaincy role this past weekend.
“It was merely a stroke of fortunate timing,” he remarks. “I believe God guided me toward that game, knowing it aligned with my life’s purpose to compete at the highest level and pursue my aspirations.”
At age 31, Eluemunor relocated to New Jersey with his father at 14 seeking greater prospects, before playing American football at Morris Knolls High School. His imposing frame made an immediate impression, yet also prompted premature assumptions from one coach who viewed him as an innate force of nature.

“I had never lifted weights in my life,” he states. “I recall them placing 225 pounds on the bar; I lifted it, only for it to crash onto my chest due to my lack of strength. Now I bench over 500 pounds. It was an astonishing initiation, and as I walked around, I felt distinctly like the English newcomer.”
Despite spending half his life in the United States, he remains perpetually recognized as the ‘British guy’ within NFL locker rooms.
“People continually tease me about my British heritage—it’s an unchanging reality,” he jokes. “I am consistently mocked for being English, with accents mimicked daily.”
Nevertheless, Eluemunor has never avoided embracing his roots. This year, he returned to the United Kingdom to conduct a four-day camp series reaching 385 children. Notably, one family drove over two hours each way to attend a session.
“It demonstrates to children that location, origin, skin color, height, or size do not dictate potential—anyone can achieve their ambitions,” he explained. “I aspire to be a figure they can admire for inspiration, as I possessed nothing notable during my youth.”
“I held dreams but questioned their attainability. I aim to show these youths that while they may not yet be where they desire, persistent effort eliminates barriers to achievement.”

His story exemplifies patience and persistence. Despite sending hundreds of emails to colleges nationwide without initial recruitment, Eluemunor attended Lackawanna College. His outstanding field performance eventually attracted interest from 35 programs, leading to three years at Texas A&M before the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The transition, much like his initial move to the US, proved far from effortless.
He started merely three games in his first two seasons with the Ravens, recalling fans who declared he ‘sucked’ and questioned his NFL belonging. Eluemunor was ultimately traded to the New England Patriots in August 2019, marking the most arduous yet pivotal phase of his career.
“It transformed me entirely,” he affirms. “I occupied the lowest rung in New England—a genuinely challenging experience.”
“I gained profound self-awareness. I understood the requirements to genuinely belong in this league. Crucially, I realized my mental resilience surpasses my self-perception. If I endured that, I can overcome any obstacle.”
Eluemunor saw limited offensive action—29 snaps—in his first Patriots season, hampered by a Week Six ankle injury. Upon returning to practice, a teammate fell on his leg, reducing him to tears amid another career setback.
He acknowledges internalizing social media criticism and engaging in negative self-talk, at one point breaking down while speaking with Patriots trainer Daryl Nelson during his difficult transition to left tackle.

“Everyone nurtures goals and dreams. When you sense them slipping beyond your control, you may spiral downward. Before long, you can reach rock bottom,” he elaborates.
“Escaping rock bottom necessitates support from others—it cannot be achieved alone. I benefited from individuals who genuinely lifted me from that depths and redirected my path.”
“I consider myself fortunate, as few can descend to rock bottom and climb back to create meaning. While luck played a role, I also labored intensely—mentally and physically—to escape that state and attain my current position.”
At his nadir, he faced inquiries about suicidal ideation, which he consistently denied, largely crediting his unwavering support system spearheaded by his wife Christina.
“I contend that mental health warrants significant attention today; greater openness will yield improvement,” he explains.
“Frequently, we perceive ourselves as needing to embody unbreakable, imposing figures—especially as NFL offensive linemen—leading others to view us as superhuman rather than human.”
“Yet sharing genuine emotions and struggles, demonstrating authentic normality, profoundly aids in destigmatizing sensitive topics like mental health.”
“By mastering narrative control, embracing diligence, and practicing vulnerability, you discover heightened acceptance. Finding an exceptional group or team—such as my fortunate experience with the Giants—fosters affection for your true self, eliminating the need for pretense and allowing authentic existence.”
Eluemunor, an Arsenal fan, discovered the NFL by watching the first ever London game on television
Following the 2020 season, Eluemunor became a free agent, only to be released by the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars during preseason. He subsequently joined the Las Vegas Raiders, starting three games at right guard before being benched for the season’s remainder.
He secured a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Raiders for 2022, paving the way for his most productive year. Starting all 17 games earned him a $3 million extension. Despite criticism of his work ethic and attitude from interim coach Rich Bisaccia—which ignited a determined response—his physical capabilities to dominate and potential to secure a starting NFL role had always existed, awaiting activation. Coaches eagerly anticipated his fulfillment of this potential, encouraging him to persevere with a smile.
Despite his advancement, Eluemunor remained mindful of his New England struggles and the persistent threat of reverting to that mindset. He connected with mental health coach Brian Cain, who later created a ‘mental movie’ for Eluemunor to view pre-game, featuring loved ones and career highlights.
“I watch it before every contest; it recenters my purpose and clarifies the requirements for success. He has been immensely influential for me,” he states.
“I perform for my wife and daughters—this is my fundamental motivation. I want them to reflect on my career and recognize that their father achieved excellence, potentially standing as the premier player in his position during their childhood.”
“I desire for them to see that he realized all his ambitions, leaving no reason why they cannot pursue their own.”
This message resonates identically in his interactions with children at camps like the UK series held last summer.
“Mental health represents a sensitive topic, particularly among youth, necessitating vulnerability and authenticity,” he continues. “Donning the face mask does not alter my core identity. I aim to show them that, despite my professional status and earnings, I remain fundamentally akin to them.”
“I endeavor to demonstrate daily that our differences are superficial; our intrinsic qualities define us.”

Today’s Jermaine Eluemunor asserts he is the NFL’s premier right tackle—a conviction he holds without reservation.
He openly welcomes one-on-one confrontations with elite pass rushers like T.J. Watt, eager to challenge himself against the best while confident in prevailing. As of Week Four this season, no offensive tackle faces isolated situations more frequently than Eluemunor’s 71.4 percent rate, per Pro Football Focus; moreover, he wins those encounters 93.7 percent of the time.
“I have evolved substantially mentally,” he declares. “Reflecting on that New England period, I recognize I am now exponentially superior both mentally and physically.”
“Enduring such trials is essential to reach aspirations and become the desired self. I view this as a personal test to verify my capacity to evolve into who I aspire to be.”
“I have perpetually pursued excellence. Initially, I simply failed to invest the necessary effort to achieve it.”
Eluemunor signed a two-year agreement with the Giants in March 2024, becoming an integral component of their offensive line. Countless trials and obstacles preceded this stability, yet now exists a enduring foundation and momentum poised to unleash the optimal expression of the Chalk Farm, London native.
“I have navigated numerous fluctuations; prior to arriving in New York, setbacks outweighed advancements. I have dedicated relentless effort to reach my current standing,” he articulated.
“I persistently exert maximum effort to achieve greatness. My ambition is to attain peak potential, to become the greatest, and to reign supreme in my position.”
