Thirty-one years ago, Raymond Lo Shu-yuen, a Hong Kong resident, received a diagnosis of stage four liver cancer, which necessitated the surgical removal of a quarter of his liver.
Now at 75 years old, Lo reflects that the illness, despite its severe physical and emotional burdens, provided invaluable insights into aging, health, and the importance of living life to the fullest.
“I can say that the cancer itself saved me,” he remarked.
He explained that without the illness, he would not have abandoned his previous unhealthy habits, such as overworking, consuming excessive junk food, neglecting exercise, and forgoing the companionship of pets and animals.
