Fulham are engaged in discussions to secure Romania international defender Andrei Ratiu from La Liga side Rayo Vallecano.
Negotiations remain ongoing regarding a potential transfer for the 28-year-old, who has expressed willingness to make the switch to Craven Cottage.
Manager Alvaro Arbeloa is eager to reinforce his defensive options ahead of the upcoming transfer deadline. While Ratiu primarily operates as a right-back, he also possesses the versatility to feature in multiple positions across the backline.
Born in Romania, Ratiu has developed the majority of his professional career in Spain after entering Villarreal’s youth system, with the exception of a loan stint at Dutch outfit ADO Den Haag.
Following his departure from Villarreal, he joined Huesca before eventually establishing himself in Spain’s top flight with Rayo Vallecano upon his 2023 transfer.
Arbeloa, who took charge at Fulham this summer after replacing Marco Silva, is determined to bolster his squad before Tuesday evening’s transfer window closes.
The London club have already strengthened their attacking line by signing striker Gonzalo Garcia and forward Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid, as well as securing midfielder Shea Charles from Southampton.
Additionally, they have converted Jonah Kusi-Asare’s loan arrangement from Bayern Munich into a permanent deal.
Fulham opened their Premier League campaign with a 3-2 home defeat to Chelsea on Monday, but responded positively with a 3-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
