Gary Kelly made a winning start in the men’s singles.
The former silver medallist from four years ago dominated his match against Fred Tafatu of Niue Island, triumphing by two sets to nil (13‑1, 8‑3).
Although the 36‑year‑old from Ballymoney seized the first set, the second set was closely contested before Kelly clinched the win with a full house of four shots in the decisive seventh end.
As only the group winner advances to the semi‑finals, Kelly’s upcoming match against New Zealand’s Shannon McIlroy on Friday morning will be pivotal.
McIlroy secured a decisive victory over Tonga’s Liam Hill.
