Gavi Highlights Argentina as Dream Final Opposite Despite Spain’s Path to Glory
Spain and France are the last remaining contenders in the 2026 World Cup race, following a decisive first-half triumph by France over Morocco. The focus now turns to Spain’s upcoming clash against Belgium—a match that will determine if Luis de la Fuente’s charges join the final four. Spanish midfielder Gavi weighs in on his potential fantasy final opponent.
Gavi expressed admiration for Argentina’s legacy, specifically citing Lionel Messi as a key draw. “I’ve always dreamed of scoring an overhead kick in the final,” he said. “I’d love to face Argentina because of Messi, but reaching the final is the priority—regardless of the opponent.”
Gavi Acknowledges Belgium’s Emergence
Though Spain might be favored statistically, Belgium’s resurgence complicates the narrative. After narrow losses to Senegal, they stunned the United States with a 4-1 victory, signaling renewed composure. Their blend of veteran leadership and youthful talent remains a threat.
When addressing Belgium’s strengths, Gavi conceded: “They have players who can compete, like Portugal. We must execute flawlessly. Victory depends on our performance, not their reputation.”
Gavi Addresses Reduced Squad Role
Gavi admitted frustration over limited playing time, having appeared in just six matches due to tactical substitutions. Still, he remains focused on collective success over individual accolades.
“I’m here to win the World Cup,” Gavi emphasized. “The manager trusts his squad, and I trust him to use me effectively. Whatever’s needed, I’ll deliver.”
