WASHINGTON — General Dynamics President Danny Deep will assume the chief executive role next year, as longtime CEO Phebe Novakovic prepares to step down, the company announced today.
Novakovic, who has led GD since 2013, will move to executive chairman on Jan. 1, 2027, when Deep takes over as CEO.
“Danny is a highly skilled executive with deep operational experience. It has been a pleasure working closely with him, and I am confident he will be an outstanding CEO,” Novakovic said in the announcement. “I very much look forward to our continued collaboration.”
Deep has spent 25 years at GD, becoming president in 2025—a development industry observers viewed as a clear signal he was next in line for the CEO position. His background includes roles such as executive vice president of global operations, executive vice president of combat systems, and president of land systems.
“Phebe has been an extraordinary leader for General Dynamics, and I am grateful for our close partnership and the chance to continue working together moving forward,” said Deep. “I am profoundly honored to be selected as the next CEO of General Dynamics and deeply thankful for the board’s confidence.”
General Dynamics designs and produces technologies ranging from ground vehicles and cyber tools to nuclear submarines. The company reported $52.6 billion in revenue for 2025.
Novakovic’s announced departure comes just five days after the unexpected exit of Amy Gilliland, who had headed the GD subsidiary General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) since 2017.
