A private prison operator contributed $1.4 million to President Trump’s political action committee following the administration’s $165 million annual contracts to house immigrants in ICE detention centers.

The donations from GEO Group’s subsidiary were disclosed in MAGA Inc.’s campaign finance filings, revealing two major contributions: $1 million on July 16 and $413,000 on July 31.

These payments coincided with the company securing two five-year contracts with ICE: $85 million yearly for a detention center in Hudson, Colo., and $80 million annually for a facility in Winton, N.C.

White House officials denied any connection between the donations and government business, stating contracts were awarded competitively. ICE and DHS emphasized adherence to procurement regulations.

GEO Group, a major player in private corrections, has faced criticism for substandard conditions at facilities like Delaney Hall in New Jersey. Protests and hunger strikes there this year highlighted concerns about treatment of detainees.

While the company denies ties between contributions and contracts, its financial success under the Trump administration is notable. GEO reported $254.3 million in net income last year, up from $31.9 million under Biden, driven by expanded ICE contracts.

The North Carolina detention site acquired via ICE is now dormant, closed by the Biden administration. It is set to reopen as a key East Coast facility under Trump’s policies.

GEO has a history of favoring Republican causes, increasing donations since Trump’s return to power. The company contributed $500,000 to Trump’s inauguration and over $4.4 million to MAGA Inc. since late 2023.
