Mercedes’ George Russell claimed the top spot during the initial free practice session for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix at Montmeló, outpacing McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
Under intense Friday heat, Russell clocked a fastest lap of 1m16.363s, edging out Piastri by two-tenths of a second. Charles Leclerc, driving a significantly upgraded Ferrari SF-26, finished third, trailing the leader by 0.520s, followed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
