Worcestershire County Cricket Club has announced the signing of all-rounder George Thomas on a two-year contract, with the 22-year-old set to join the squad ahead of the 2027 season. Thomas, who will be available across all formats, comes to Worcestershire following a period with Sussex County Cricket Club, which he joined in March 2025.
Thomas brings a wealth of experience across multiple formats to his new county. In List A cricket, he has amassed 649 runs, including a top score of 106 not out from 26 appearances. His ability to accelerate in the shorter formats was on display during the 2026 Vitality T20 Blast group stage. Across all forms of the game, Thomas has made 39 appearances, establishing himself as a promising talent in English county cricket.
“It is a really exciting opportunity for me to develop my career at Worcestershire across all formats and hopefully kick onto the next level. The Club is in a really good place and are building for the future with an ambition to win trophies, which is a big motivation for me. I feel like I have a lot to offer in both red ball and white ball cricket, so I am really looking forward to getting started with the group,” Thomas told the Club.
England age-group background and early county journey
The 22-year-old is a right-handed batter and right-arm medium bowler who previously represented England at the Under-19 level. He recorded a pair of half-centuries during England’s run to the 2022 Under-19 World Cup final, opening the batting throughout the tournament. Thomas launched his List A career with Somerset in August 2021, cutting his teeth in one-day cricket before his move to Sussex in March 2025. His steady progression through the age groups and early county experiences caught the attention of Worcestershire.

Signing someone like George, a young, talented cricketer who is available for all three formats and is eager to better himself, only helps us moving forward. The signing marks a new chapter for Thomas as he looks to further his development at a county with clear ambitions. Worcestershire have moved to secure the young all-rounder as part of their long-term planning across both red-ball and white-ball cricket. Thomas will now aim to cement his place in the Worcestershire squad as he enters this next stage of his career.

He has a really dynamic attacking game which he has shown in white ball cricket and has all the skills to develop in the longer format too.
