Georgia Adams Calls for Fresh Start as Hampshire Prepares for T20 Finals Day

Hampshire captain Georgia Adams has emphasized the importance of starting anew as her team gears up for the T20 Blast Finals Day at The Oval on Friday.

The Hawks topped the group stage, securing eight wins from 12 matches with two losses and two ties, demonstrating consistent form throughout the campaign.

Adams will lead her side against fourth-placed Durham in the first semi-final at 14:30 BST, with the winners advancing to face either Surrey or The Blaze in the final at 11:00.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Adams stressed the mental reset required for high-stakes encounters: “I believe in wiping the slate clean going into finals. The most relaxed I’ve ever felt entering a Finals Day was in 2024 with the Southern Vipers, where we had five England internationals, but we still struggled and lost the semi-final to South East Stars.”

“That experience taught me valuable lessons. While confidence from the group stages is important, starting fresh and focusing on fundamentals under pressure is critical,” she explained.

Hampshire secured the top spot with the group’s highest run-rate of 0.874. Batter Maia Bouchier contributed 355 runs across six matches, while Adams herself amassed over 340 runs and took 23 wickets in 12 games.

Adams praised the collective effort behind Hampshire’s strong campaign, noting, “We’ve fielded nearly different XIs each game due to injuries and England call-ups. Despite the challenges, a young and adapting squad has maintained consistency in preparation and mindset.”

“Our approach is simple: focus on each match individually. With two games in one day, staying present and not overthinking the second game is key,” Adams added.

She cited former Hampshire coach Adi Birrell’s philosophy: “The best teams excel at ordinary things. In finals, narrowing focus and executing basics is what matters most, especially with added scrutiny.”

Adams, a decorated player with multiple titles including the 2021 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup, remains committed to guiding her team through the pressure with clarity and simplicity.
