Yesterday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened the inaugural meeting of the Economic Diplomacy Action Group (EDAG), a council of federal agency leaders designed to improve whole-of-government coordination for U.S. commercial and economic diplomacy.
The EDAG, chaired by the Secretary of State and co-chaired by the Secretary of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative, will coordinate and leverage a full spectrum of U.S. government programs and capacity‑building mechanisms. Its goal is to create favorable overseas economic conditions that support U.S. companies, create jobs for American workers, and attract investment back into the United States.
Authorized by the Championing American Business through Diplomacy Act of 2019, the EDAG will shape the direction of U.S. economic statecraft to advance U.S. foreign‑policy priorities. This includes promoting American leadership in artificial intelligence and strengthening critical‑mineral supply chains. The group works in tandem with existing U.S. government initiatives on critical minerals and AI exports, such as Pax Silica— the_k Department’s flagship trusted supply‑chain program—and will execute Executive Order 14320 on Promoting the Export of the American AI Technology Stack by deploying federal financing tools to support key AI export packages.
Attendees at the first meeting included leaders from the Departments of State, Commerce, Agriculture, Energy, Treasury, Defense, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, the Export‑Import Bank of the United States, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the National Security Council, the Small Business Administration, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
