High‑level talks are set for next week to conclude negotiations between the German Football Federation (DFB) and Red Bull, bringing Jürgen Klopp closer to accepting the national‑team coaching role.
The former Liverpool manager’s anticipated return to coaching has progressed significantly, with key meetings now taking place in the United States to seal the appointment.
Florian Plettenberg reports on Klopp’s move to manage Germany
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the process is advancing across the Atlantic.
“First negotiations between Jürgen Klopp, Marc Kosicke and the DFB, represented by Bernd Neuendorf and Hans‑Joachim Watzke, are now underway in New York, as revealed,” Plettenberg posted on X.
“The final negotiations between the DFB and Red Bull are scheduled for early next week in New York between Watzke and Oliver Mintzlaff.”
The journalist noted that everything is moving according to plan, with an official announcement imminent once the final paperwork is completed.
Klopp is expected to receive a long‑term deal running until 2030, pending the resolution of minor administrative issues.

Klopp is viewed as the ideal figure to rejuvenate Germany’s national team
After Julian Nagelsmann’s departure following Germany’s disappointing World Cup 2026 exit, the DFB acted swiftly to bring in Klopp.
For a side that has struggled with identity and consistency in recent major tournaments, Klopp’s appointment would represent a major coup.
Having spent the last 18 months as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, the 59‑year‑old said he is “more recharged than ever” and ready for international coaching responsibilities.
His proven record of rebuilding top‑level clubs, combined with his high‑intensity philosophy and charismatic leadership, makes him the perfect choice to restore belief in the Nationalmannschaft.
Klopp’s triumphs at Liverpool highlight his experience and pedigree, offering fresh momentum that could reignite confidence and return Germany to football’s elite ranks.
