The Tour Championship will begin Thursday at East Lake Golf Club, featuring the top 30 FedEx Cup points leaders competing for one of the PGA Tour’s biggest purses.
The season‑ending event offers a $40 million total purse, with $10 million awarded to the champion. The increased prize pool, combined with a reduced field, makes it the most lucrative tournament of the year.
Scottie Scheffler emerges as the favorite among oddsmakers and analysts this week. Despite battling hand, foot, and mouth disease at the BMW Championship last week, he managed to climb from a tie for last after 13 holes to finish in a tie for 12th.
Scheffler has a strong history at East Lake, claiming victory in 2024, finishing tied for fourth the previous year and tied for sixth in 2023. His ability to remain near the top of the leaderboard is well documented.
Rory McIlroy holds the second‑best odds and demonstrated significant progress at the BMW Championship, where he finished third.
“I’m encouraged by how I performed this week compared to last week in Memphis, and it’s something to build on heading into East Lake,” McIlroy told The Irish Times.
McIlroy has a storied past at the Tour Championship, winning in 2016, 2019, and 2022. His powerful drives and high‑trajectory long irons position him as a strong contender this week.

Despite being an underdog in the betting, Si Woo Kim arrives at the season finale without a victory, having held the lead during the final round on several occasions this year.
“I view Si Woo Kim as one of the most consistent players on the PGA Tour all season. He has missed just one cut and amassed numerous top‑5 finishes. He consistently finishes high but has yet to secure a trophy,” Shane Bacon remarked on Golf on CBS.
“I’ll go with Si Woo because of what we witnessed last year with Tommy Fleetwood—one final attempt to claim a trophy.”
Six players will be making their debut at the Tour Championship at East Lake: Ryan Gerard, Min Woo Lee, Alex Fitzpatrick, Kristopher Rietan, Alex Smalley, and Ryan Fox.
