The newly released trailer for Nimrods, a coming‑of‑age comedy inspired by Green Day’s formative years, showcases the legendary band encouraging a fledgling group of musicians to pursue their dreams.
The film follows the members of Green Day as they lend a supporting slot on a New Year’s Eve gig to an eager, hopeful band after listening to their demo tape. The story, set to premiere in U.S. cinemas on August 14, follows the youthful trio—played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust—on a cross‑country road trip to secure the coveted opening performance, facing misadventures and obstacles along the way.

Initially titled New Years Rev when production began early last year, the film was renamed Nimrods in April, a nod to Green Day’s 1997 album. Directed by Lee Kirk, the cast includes Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Jenna Fischer, and Bobby Lee.
Shortly after its announcement, Green Day issued a casting call seeking young adults—“punks, emo, hardcore, alternative, and rocker”—aged 18–30. The first trailer premiered last September.
Earlier this year, Green Day made headlines by performing at the Super Bowl opening ceremony held at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8. The band delivered a medley of classic tracks, including the politically charged “American Idiot,” but avoided including a politically altered lyric that had appeared in recent shows. The decision sparked online discussion among fans and critics alike.
