A junior secondary school in southern China has drawn widespread criticism after introducing a policy that allows students to use the restroom just once per term during class.
The policy came to light after a photograph, allegedly taken by a teacher at Ruyuan County High School in Guangdong Province during an internal meeting in late August, was shared by the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald.
Regarding classroom discipline, the school states that each student may use the toilet for emergencies only once per term, as outlined in a PowerPoint slide presented at the meeting.
If a student needs to use the restroom a second time, they must have their parents come to the school to discuss the matter with administrators. A third infraction would result in disciplinary action, though the exact penalties are not specified in the slide.
The school maintains that enforcing this restroom policy is intended to uphold classroom discipline.
