Gull Feroza Fined for Dissent in Women’s T20 Asia Cup Match

Gull Feroza, Pakistan’s top‑order batter, was fined 10% of her match fee and received a demerit point on her disciplinary record for showing dissent toward the on‑field umpire’s lbw decision during the Women’s T20 Asia Cup match against Hong Kong in Dubai on Monday.

The incident occurred in the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings, after they chose to bat, when Feroza attempted a sweep on a tossed‑up delivery from left‑arm wrist‑spinner Kary Chan, missed, and the ball struck her pad in front of the stumps.

The umpire’s decision stood, and with no DRS available in the tournament, Feroza had to leave the field. The ICC noted that she “showed dissent toward the on‑field umpire’s decision by gesturing with her bat to suggest she had made contact.”

This conduct breached Article 2.8 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct for Players.

It was Feroza’s second offence within a 24‑month period, bringing her total to two demerit points in that timeframe.

Feroza became the second Pakistani player to be disciplined for a code‑of‑conduct breach during the Asia Cup, following her captain Fatima Sana, who also received a 10% match‑fee fine and a demerit point for her send‑off of Shafali Verma in the match against India on Saturday.

The incident occurred in the second over of India’s chase of Pakistan’s 55, when Shafali popped a catch back to Sana, the bowler. Sana gestured toward the pavilion as she celebrated, drawing the officials’ attention.

Pakistan’s 72‑run victory over Hong Kong secured their place as the second team from Group A to reach the semi‑finals. They will now face Sri Lanka in the second semi‑final on Friday, while Bangladesh and India meet in the first semi‑final on Thursday.
