Wrestleview recently had the opportunity to speak with WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry, thanks to the predictions market experts at casino.org/us. In the interview, Henry shared his thoughts on current wrestling dynamics, including his favorite antagonists, the short-lived reign of Sami Zayn, and the reception of CM Punk’s comeback.
When asked about the most compelling heels in today’s industry, Henry listed Dominik Mysterio, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF), and the duo known as Fatal Influence as his top three choices.
Dominik Mysterio is great right now. In AEW, MJF is also a standout, and I have to mention Fatal Influence—they’re definitely getting heat and really standing out as villains. You can tell the moment one of them takes the microphone; the crowd booms with boos instantly.
Henry also praised MJF’s versatility. “He doesn’t apologize for anything and can play both hero and villain roles. There’s no limit to how you can use him, and when you have a talent of his calibre, everyone pays attention.”
When it comes to the top star across WWE, AEW, or TNA, I’d put Roman Reigns at the very top. He’s championship material and commands the spotlight. I’d rank Brock Lesnar or Oba Femi above CM Punk and Cody Rhodes when considering the biggest attractions.
Turning to Sami Zayn’s brief 9‑day reign as Undisputed WWE Champion, Henry expressed disappointment in WWE’s timing. “I felt the title was taken away too quickly. I would’ve liked to see him invoke his rematch clause, maybe dress up as Santa Claus and bring a fresh character twist. They jumped the gun, and I wish they could undo it.”
I think it was the wrong decision—the trigger was pulled too soon. I would have liked for him to call for his rematch clause and dress up like Santa Claus and just go to the ring and be a character. Be a little different the way that he has been over the last year or so. But yeah, I think they took it from him too soon, and I wish that they could go backwards and get him back as champion.
To see both of those guys go to war and it end the way that it did didn’t disappoint me, but I just wondered why so soon? I don’t want to feel that way with Roman and Seth, and that worries me. I want it to be longer. I want them to stretch it out and have good stories told before you get to WrestleMania. But they’re story needs at least one more PLE.
I think they maybe sacrificed Zayn to get Punk at SummerSlam but everything is a sacrifice in wrestling. It’s not uncommon for two wrestlers not to get along. They’re always arguing about others getting more opportunities than them, and I think more of that is gonna come straight after SummerSlam.
I think they see Punk as a star. He’s an unbelievable talent with a lot of upsides still. You look at the match that he had with Sami Zayn, you look at the match he had with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, the man has no weakness. We always need to see that version of CM Punk. I want to see him more in WWE, not less.
On whether Punk deserved an immediate push after his return, Henry noted the nature of wrestling timing. “I don’t know if you have to bring somebody back that’s already established, but they’ve still got to show up and produce. The pressure is always on, and I think that’s what has happened. The cream just rose to the top.”
But that doesn’t mean Sami is any less valuable. It’s just a matter of timing. He’s now established himself. He’s had his breakout moment, and now it’s someone else’s turn to step up and make that leap. That’s just how wrestling works.
Following his WWE career, Henry joined AEW as a coach and broadcast talent for AEW Rampage, contributing from 2021 until his deal concluded in May 2024. He returned to WWE in March 2025 under a Legends contract that includes new Mattel action figures.
