Could AJ Styles eventually be convinced to return to the ring? One TNA Wrestling Hall of Famer believes it might be possible.
In a recent interview with SportsMattersTV, reigning TNA X-Division Champion Amazing Red weighed in on the possibility of luring “The Phenomenal One” back into action following his retirement earlier this year.
Styles officially concluded his in-ring career after his loss to GUNTHER at the WWE Royal Rumble in January. Though he has stepped away from competition, the former WWE Champion remains active within the wrestling community—a detail that Red believes could contribute to a potential comeback.
Red referenced his own journey, pointing to how Will Ospreay played a role in his return to wrestling after retiring. “I completely agree with you,” Red commented. “I’ve been thinking about that too. The way Will Ospreay pulled me out of retirement and kept pushing me until I came back—yeah, I see what you see. I notice AJ training, moving from dojo to dojo. I see him supporting his son and staying engaged.”
According to Red, walking away from professional wrestling permanently is easier said than done. “It’s just… I don’t think anyone can truly leave wrestling behind. There are definitely times when we need to step away—mentally or physically. But wrestling is just one of those things that sticks with you, like that ex-girlfriend who never really lets you go.”
Red also entertained the idea of connecting with Styles through his son, who has embarked on his own wrestling path. “If the timing is right for him, maybe I’ll have to go through his son to reach him. Who knows? That’s definitely an interesting angle. Imagine challenging AJ Styles’ son for the X-Division title one day—that would be quite something.”
Red was inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame earlier this month during Bound For Glory weekend, where he also claimed the vacant X-Division Championship.
At this time, Styles has shown no signs of reconsidering his retirement decision.
