ISLAMABAD — Wicketkeeper-batter Hamza Zahoor delivered an unbeaten century under pressure on Sunday, guiding Pakistan to a three-wicket victory over arch-rivals India in a Group A match of the Under-19 Asia Cup in Oman.
The win marks Pakistan’s second consecutive triumph in the tournament, following their nine-wicket victory over the UAE on November 6.
India batted first and were dismissed for 208 in 46.3 overs. Ali Raza, Rizwanullah, and Niqab Shafiq each claimed three wickets, while Mohammad Sayyam added one.
“Chasing 209, Pakistan crossed the line in 48.1 overs with three wickets in hand and 11 balls remaining, thanks to a match-winning unbeaten 100 off 108 balls from Zahoor, featuring 10 fours and three sixes,” the Pakistan Cricket Board stated.
Pakistan’s chase began poorly, slipping to 61 for five within 15 overs. Zahoor and Hasnain Abbas Dar, who contributed 38, forged a 107-run sixth-wicket partnership that steadied the innings and secured the win.
For India, Manal Chauhan took three wickets for 32 runs.
Pakistan had previously defeated India by 191 runs in last year’s ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup final in Dubai to claim the title.
