Heart of Midlothian have confirmed that winger Calvin Miller will be sidelined for two months following knee surgery required after the Premier Sports Cup semi-final defeat to Hibernian at Hampden Park.
Midfielder Thomas Magnusson is also set for a spell on the sidelines until after the international break after suffering a concussion in the first half of the same fixture.
The latest setbacks swell an already extensive casualty list, leaving head coach Wouter Vrancken with just 19 available players—six short of the standard 25-man limit—for Thursday’s Conference League trip to face Thun in Switzerland.
Including Miller and Magnusson, the Edinburgh club now have ten first-team squad members ruled out through injury.
Hearts made a bright start at the national stadium, taking an early lead through Claudio Braga, but the match turned on a disastrous opening period. Magnusson was forced off after only 14 minutes, and Miller, who had provided the assist for Braga’s opener, followed him down the tunnel on 37 minutes. Hibernian capitalised on the disruption to secure a 2-1 victory.
Prior to his injury, the uncapped 28-year-old Miller had been attracting attention as a potential bolter for the Scotland squad, recently named by his compatriot Sebastien Pocognoli, following recent call-ups for winger Josh McPake and striker James Wilson.
