Adam Cole vs. Matt Riddle – Observer Newsletter Rating

Dave Meltzer’s analysis of the Adam Cole versus Matt Riddle encounter appears in the October 7, 2019 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (full access requires a subscription).

“The TV show opened with Adam Cole retaining the NXT title over Matt Riddle in 13:48. They said Cole had a cast on his wrist due to a fractured wrist. He used the cast for the finish but the injury is legit. It was attributed to Riddle putting Cole in the Fujiwara armbar last week, but Cole has actually been injured since mid‑August. Riddle did three gut wrenches in a row. There was a great spot where each landed solid kicks, and Cole finished with an ushigoroshi. Cole came off the apron into a knee. Riddle tried a Phoenix splash but Cole got his knees up and hit the Panama Sunrise, a Canadian Destroyer off the middle rope.

“He tried a second one, Riddle blocked and hit the Bro to sleep. Cole did another Panama sunrise, but Riddle. Riddle got a choke and later a Fujiwara armbar. Riddle did that move to both arms. Cole got the pin after hitting Riddle with a coast and giving him the last shot. ****1/4”
