A Hong Kong tour group on an aurora‑watching boat excursion near an Australian island rescued two fellow city residents who had gone missing while scuba diving, an act the agency described as “shining a light on the brilliance of humanity.”
WWPKG Tours shared the rescue details on Sunday via a Facebook post, praising tour leader Foxman Hui and his teammates who were on a trip in Tasmania.
The group was out at sea on a Southern Lights sightseeing cruise in Hobart on Friday when they encountered two Hong Kong divers who had been swept away by ocean currents.
“The tour leader used a smartphone camera to scan the sea surface, ultimately locating and rescuing the two individuals about 500 metres (1,640 feet) from their planned surfacing point,” the agency wrote, accompanying the post with photos of the divers.
“He demonstrated remarkable alertness and professionalism in a split second, resourcefully employing a smartphone to search the pitch‑black water and successfully pulling the two divers from the currents.”
The agency added that the tour members also exemplified a genuine spirit of mutual care and support.
“This heroic act not only saved two fellow Hong Kong residents but also highlighted the brilliance of humanity, leaving us incredibly proud!”
