Hong Kong Stocks Poised for Additional Losses as Geopolitical Tensions Pressure Markets

The Hong Kong stock market has concluded lower in consecutive sessions, shedding nearly 250 points or roughly 1 percent over that stretch. The Hang Seng Index now rests just below the 25,330-point mark and could struggle to regain momentum on Wednesday.

Global sentiment toward Asian markets remains subdued as escalating hostilities in the Middle East have driven a sharp rise in energy costs. European and U.S. markets closed in negative territory, and Asian exchanges are expected to mirror that direction.

The Hang Seng ended modestly lower on Tuesday, with resource, technology, and financial sectors closing predominantly in the red.

For the session, the index declined 237.26 points or 0.93 percent to settle at 25,329.73, after fluctuating between 25,240.20 and 25,478.98.

Wall Street set a cautious tone, as the major averages opened lower on Tuesday and remained firmly underwater throughout the trading day.

The Dow shed 419.02 points or 0.79 percent to close at 52,766.88, while the NASDAQ dropped 271.12 points or 1.03 percent to finish at 26,099.77, and the S&P 500 lost 54.67 points or 0.71 percent to end at 7,631.47.

The persistent weakness on Wall Street followed an announcement from U.S. Central Command regarding a new wave of strikes against Iran, targeting Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities.

Crude oil prices have climbed in response to the latest military action, reigniting concerns about inflationary pressures and the trajectory of interest rates.

Crude oil prices rose sharply on Tuesday after the United States launched a fresh series of attacks on Iran, building on the recent exchange of strikes over the weekend. West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery gained $4.27 or 4.98 percent, reaching $90.03 per barrel.
