The Season 3 premiere centered on the fierce Battle of the Gullet, where Triarchy forces assaulted Lord Corlys Velaryon’s blockade of King’s Landing. Team Black, though outnumbered, was rescued by Prince Jacaerys and Princess Baela on dragonback. However, Triarchy archers struck Jace’s dragon Vermax, causing both dragon and rider to crash into the sea. While the crown prince survived, the dragon perished. Meanwhile, Daemon celebrated his victory and joined forces with northern allies, while Gwayne Hightower and Criston Cole pressed their march across the Riverlands without dragon support. In King’s Landing, Alicent plotted against her sons, sending Aemond away and setting the stage for Rhaenyra’s takeover.

Season 1’s time‑jumping plot concluded with the death of King Viserys I and the fractured path to succession, pitting Team Black—led by his daughter Rhaenyra and her husband Daemon—against Team Green, commanded by the Hightowers and Viserys’s sons with Alicent, Aegon, and Aemond. A decisive dragon duel at Storm’s End claimed the life of Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys and his dragon, sealing an irrevocable conflict.
Season 2 intensified the struggle, beginning with Daemon’s failed assassination attempt on Aemond, which led to the beheading of Aegon and Helaena’s young heir Jaehaerys. The Battle of Rook’s Rest introduced the series’ first large‑scale dragon clash, claiming the lives of Rhaenyra’s aunt Rhaenys and leaving Aegon severely wounded. Team Black later recruited commoners’ dragons, narrowing the gap in power, while Team Green still held King’s Landing. Secret negotiations between Rhaenyra and Alicent set the stage for a potential takeover of the city, with Daemon advancing in the Riverlands and Aemond seizing the throne after his brother’s incapacitation.
