The new La Liga season is underway with Lamine Yamal and his Barcelona teammates once again title favorites as they look to win their third successive title under head coach Hansi Flick. A familiar face, however, is out to end their dominance, with legendary Portuguese manager José Mourinho returning for a second stint in charge of Real Madrid.

Former Chelsea and Man United boss Mourinho has been tasked by Madrid president Florentino Pérez with bringing the glory days back to Los Blancos. He’s already convinced Brazilian star Vinícius Júnior to ignore Arsenal’s advances and sign a new six-year deal to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu, while $150 million winger Yan Diomandé is a key new recruit. Real’s eternal rival Barça have further bolstered their squad over the summer, poaching Spain World Cup-winning skipper Rodri from Manchester City, as well as England forward Anthony Gordon.

The new campaign also sees Diego Simeone in charge of Atlético Madrid for what is set to be his 15th full season in charge as the Argentine coach once again looks to break Barça and Real’s grip on the title race, while Villarreal and Real Betis will both be looking to build on last term’s top-five finishes. The new season kicked off on Aug. 15, with the final fixtures set to be played on Sunday, May 30, 2027.
