Hull City have confirmed the signing of defender Nobel Mendy from Rayo Vallecano for a club record fee.
The 21-year-old centre-back joins on a five-year contract, with an option for a further year.
No fee was reported by the club, but the fee surpasses the £20m plus add-ons paid earlier this month for Greece goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos.
Hull’s previous transfer record, set in 2016 when they paid £13m for Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason, now stands.
“I am very happy to be here and very proud to be here as well,” Mendy said.
He describes himself as a very athletic player and a defender at heart, enjoying the game and coming out from the back cleanly and aggressively when needed.
He has wanted to play in the Premier League since he was a child, stating that the league presents a great challenge and he is ready for it.
Starting his career at Paris FC, Mendy scored twice in 28 games during his only La Liga season with Rayo Vallecano, finishing with a Conference League final defeat to Crystal Palace.
The previous season he reached the Conference League final with Real Betis, where he lost to Chelsea.
His only Senegal international cap came in March against Gambia.
