Icelandic voters will head to the polls on Saturday to decide whether to restart negotiations for EU membership, a closely contested vote that will attract significant attention from Brussels. The nation of just under 400,000 inhabitants submitted an application to join the EU following the 2009 financial crisis that severely damaged its economy. Talks were suspended in 2013 after a eurosceptic government took office.
