Debutant Manav Suthar claimed seven wickets as India demolished Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs, securing their most decisive Test win to date.

Suthar’s spell of 6-33 in Afghanistan’s opening innings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in New Chandigarh set the tone for the match.

India’s first‑innings total of 564-8 declared, built on centuries from opener KL Rahul and captain Shubman Gill, left the hosts in a precarious position.

Afghanistan’s reply began well, but they were bundled out for 152 on day three, with Suthar completing his maiden five‑wicket haul.

Having been required to follow on, the Afghan side collapsed from 74-1 to 112 all out.

Off-spinner Washington Sundar shone again for India, taking 4-36 in the second innings, while left‑arm wrist‑spinner Kuldeep Yadav sealed the result with a two‑wicket burst.

Gill, who scored his 11th Test hundred on day one, expressed his satisfaction: “A complete win, ticked everything off the list.”

This triumph surpasses India’s record Test victory over the West Indies by an innings and 272 runs at Rajkot in 2018.
