India Women’s Cricket Team Claims Historic First Test Win Over England at Lord’s

The Indian women’s cricket team made history by defeating England in a one-off Test, securing a commanding 270‑run victory.

This win ranks as the second‑largest margin of victory in women’s Test cricket and the fourth‑largest overall. The record for the biggest win by runs in the format remains India’s 347‑run triumph over England in Navi Mumbai in 2023.

After being asked to bat first, India posted 285 in their opening innings, driven by half‑centuries from Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Chasing a daunting target, England were dismissed for 170, with Kranti Gaud claiming a five‑wicket haul—the first by an Indian bowler in a women’s Test at Lord’s.

Left‑hand batter Yastika Bhatia then added to India’s dominance, scoring the first triple‑figure century at the venue in this historic women’s Test.

Additional contributions came from a second fifty by Smriti Mandhana and another from Richa Ghosh. India wrapped up the match with a strong bowling performance in the fourth innings, sealing a comprehensive victory.

Although England suffered a heavy loss, the match marked the close of an era for the side, as Tammy Beaumont and Heather Knight played their final internationals. The duo, who were key to England’s 2017 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup win at Lord’s, have now retired from all forms of international cricket.
