Indie musicians Kevin Morby and Waxahatchee have welcomed their first child.
Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee disclosed her pregnancy in April while on a co‑headline tour with MJ Lenderman.
Speaking from the stage at Atlanta Symphony Hall, she announced the expectancy while introducing her final song, noting that the track was about “having a baby” and would “feel a little different for me now.”
Crutchfield and Morby celebrated the arrival of their baby on Tuesday, July 21, with Morby sharing a photo of his partner on his Instagram Stories.
He later explained on Substack that the infant arrived two weeks ahead of the anticipated due date, and that Crutchfield went into labor shortly after his return from a European tour.

Morby wrote, “I returned from my European tour just in time for our little beautiful baby to arrive two weeks early. I was home only eight hours before Katie’s water broke—I like to think the baby waited for me.” He continued, “The original due date was August 1, but we now have extra time with him. What we expected to be a Leo turned out to be a Cancer. He is perfect.” He added, “Katie is a total badass, as you all already know.” He also mentioned that the family has been listening repeatedly to Grouper’s “Heavy Water/I’d Rather Be Sleeping,” and that he is withdrawing from the Eaux Claires Festival curated by Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner to focus on his newborn.
He stated, “I must withdraw from my scheduled performance at the Eaux Claires Festival this weekend in Wisconsin. While I was eager to jam with Justin and Aaron—a moment that would have felt like a full circle—I know we will have many future opportunities to play together. Sending love to everyone attending this weekend.”
Eaux Claires subsequently confirmed Morby’s removal from the lineup, posting an updated schedule with his name crossed out and indicating that an act called “Bon” will take his slot. Further details are expected soon.
The Waxahatchee tour with MJ Lenderman followed the release of their 2024 album *Tigers Blood* and Crutchfield’s solo track “Mud,” an outtake from the album’s sessions.
