Olid’s tenure at Manchester United began under challenging circumstances.
Facing a depleted squad and a strategic shift toward academy integration over external acquisitions, she was tasked with implementing a bold new attacking philosophy. The transition was initially rocky; United suffered a 2-1 loss to London City Lionesses followed by a crushing 5-0 home defeat against Chelsea.
However, Olid views that humbling loss to a title contender as the catalyst for a stronger bond with her players.
“It was a difficult week,” she reflects. “We had some honest conversations, and I took responsibility for many of the issues. I believe that accountability served as a vital starting point for the squad.”
“Despite the result, I remained confident because I could identify the exact root of the problem. Once you diagnose the issue, you can implement the solution.”
Drawing on her experience as a defensive midfielder—a role defined by discipline and efficiency—Olid decided to simplify the team’s approach.
“There was an open dialogue, and we aligned on the necessary steps,” she explains. “While that period was emotionally taxing, it forged a resilience that was evident when we faced Arsenal. We fought for one another and worked tirelessly. It was the ideal foundation for our subsequent progress.”
A hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Emirates sparked a five-match unbeaten streak, propelling United from the bottom of the WSL standings up to seventh place.
Olid believes the team is only beginning to realize its potential.
“At Manchester United, winning is the ultimate requirement,” she asserts. “The real challenge lies in balancing the pursuit of victory with the development of young talent and the installation of a new tactical identity. I believe we have finally found that equilibrium over the last few weeks.”
