Insomniac’s Solo Venom Game Remains in Development Despite Cancellation Rumors

Venom has evolved from a Spider-Man antagonist into a beloved anti-hero since the 1990s, particularly after his acclaimed run in Lethal Protector. Over the years, the symbiote has bonded with numerous hosts beyond Eddie Brock. Marvel’s Spider-Man even allowed players to briefly control Venom and gave Peter Parker access to the symbiote, and a standalone Venom game is still in development.

Recent updates on X provide new insights into Marvel’s Spider-Man: Venom. Despite rumors of cancellation earlier this year, Forbes and NateTheHate confirm the game is still in development. NateTheHate stated, “Venom is very much still in development upon last check. As to when it’ll be announced, I don’t know.” This comes after the cancellation of Spider-Man: The Great Web. With Insomniac focused on Wolverine, the studio is prioritizing that launch before shifting focus to Venom.

Fans express patience for Venom, though the prolonged development timeline feels odd given the 2023 mega-leak. “The funniest part about this game is that we’ve known it exists for so long that the official announcement is basically going to be a formality,” one fan noted. Others lament the PS5 exclusivity, arguing, “Devs need to wise up and make games multi-platform, not just Sony.” Sony appears to be moving away from PC ports, as several major titles like Ghost of Yotei and Saros will not release on PC.
