Tehran has signaled that progress toward a nuclear agreement with the United States is not expected imminently, citing ongoing operational constraints linked to the location of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to a report by CBS News, which serves as the BBC’s U.S. partner, U.S. intelligence assessments indicate that Khamenei — who sustained injuries during an Israeli strike on the first day of the conflict that also claimed the life of his father, former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — is currently stationed in an undisclosed location. This physical separation has complicated communication with his diplomatic representatives, thereby slowing momentum in indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
