The U.S. State Department confirmed to the BBC that the necessary visas for Iran’s World Cup contingent — including players and essential support staff — have been granted. Nonetheless, the department emphasized that it would not permit the Iranian team to “exploit this system to covertly introduce terrorists into the United States under false pretenses”.
