A US MQ-9 drone was shot down on Tuesday over Khomein, the capital of Markazi province in central Iran, according to the semi‑official Tasnim news agency.

The aircraft was downed by Iranian air‑defense systems, the report said, without offering additional specifics.

The report follows a statement from U.S. Central Command announcing that American forces have commenced strikes against Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps targets.

Relations between Tehran and Washington have stayed tense since the conflict began with strikes on Iran in late February.

A framework agreement was signed in June, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.

In July, the United States launched a two‑week bombing campaign and reinstated a naval blockade following disputes over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
