Iran’s Pezeshkian Acknowledges Domestic Crises Amid Fresh US Sanctions Pressure

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged on Sunday that the nation is grappling with “many problems,” addressing the public shortly after Washington unveiled a new round of sanctions designed to further isolate the Iranian economy.

“I understand we have many problems in society right now. We are trying to prevent these as much as we can,” Pezeshkian stated in a televised address. His remarks followed a US pledge last week to engineer the “collapse” of the Iranian government through an intensified sanctions campaign, issued nearly six months into the regional conflict.

Pezeshkian attributed the heightened pressure directly to US President Donald Trump, declaring that Iran now faces a “full-scale economic, military and security war.” He referenced Trump’s assertion that Washington is imposing the “most crushing and terrifying sanctions” on the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian government has weathered multiple waves of mass protests in recent years, frequently ignited by economic distress such as soaring inflation and currency volatility that have eroded purchasing power. Late last year, demonstrations initially sparked by the rising cost of living escalated into widespread calls for regime change.

Authorities reported over 3,000 deaths during the unrest, blaming the United States and Israel for orchestrating the violence. However, international non-governmental organizations accused security forces of an indiscriminate crackdown resulting in thousands of fatalities.

“We are striving with all our hearts to overcome inflation, livelihood problems, unemployment, and to secure the future of the people, so that they can live with dignity and pride,” Pezeshkian vowed on Sunday.
