Keane assumed leadership of Cricket Ireland in March, taking over from Warren Deutrom following his 19-year tenure. With a background as chief executive of Swim Ireland and as the first female president of the Olympic Federation of Ireland, she brings extensive experience to the role.

Speaking on the viability of Test cricket for Ireland, Keane highlighted affordability as a primary concern for the sport’s development. The financial burden of maintaining Test status presents significant challenges for the Irish cricket board.

Compounding the issue, Ireland lacks a domestic first-class competition, with the last inter-provincial tournament occurring in 2019. This absence creates a gap in competitive preparation for potentially Test-level fixtures.

Keane emphasized the need for the International Cricket Council and other member boards to recognize the unique circumstances confronting associate nations. She stated that understanding how Ireland fits within the broader ICC vision for the next five to ten years remains a critical focus.

“There needs to be individual consideration for full members based on their specific challenges,” she noted, adding, “These vary considerably, with bigger-ranked nations facing different obstacles than emerging cricketing nations.”

She further questioned whether established cricketing nations truly comprehend the difficulties encountered by smaller member countries in the global cricket landscape.
