Colombia to Face Uzbekistan in 2026 World Cup Group K Opener

Colombia will make its highly anticipated 2026 World Cup debut against Uzbekistan in Group K at the historic Estadio Azteca. James Rodríguez is expected to start, leading the attack as the South American side aims to begin the tournament strongly.

For Colombia, the opening whistle marks the end of an eight‑year absence from the World Cup following the disappointment of Qatar 2022. Néstor Lorenzo’s squad arrive in North America with high expectations, hoping to emulate their memorable 2014 campaign that saw them reach the quarterfinals.

For Uzbekistan, the match will be a historic milestone, as the team becomes the first nation from Central Asia to compete in a FIFA World Cup. The White Wolves have overcome three decades of qualification heartbreaks, securing their place in North America with a hard‑fought, goalless draw against the United Arab Emirates.
