Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said on Sunday that the country is entering a tense and volatile phase across all sectors, amid ongoing military operations on multiple fronts, according to Anadolu.
“We are currently in a tense and volatile situation across all sectors, and we are preparing for the upcoming holiday period,” Zamir was quoted as saying in a military statement during a snap drill with the top brass.
He added that the Israeli army’s baseline posture is to maintain readiness for a surprise attack.
Since October 2023, Israel has continued its military campaign in the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 73,000 fatalities. Israel has also engaged in conflicts with Lebanon and Iran, carried out attacks in Yemen and Qatar, and conducted near‑daily ground incursions and artillery shelling in Syria.
Zamir said the exercise simulates a multi‑front conflict to assess the army’s readiness at various levels and to review operational orders and plans, from the General Staff down to field units.
He noted that the drill is part of preparations for the Jewish holiday season, which begins with Rosh Hashanah on September 11, followed by Yom Kippur on September 20 and Sukkot on September 25.
The surprise exercise, ordered by Zamir, aims to evaluate readiness at the General Staff and regional command levels, as well as the ability of emergency forces to respond to sudden, complex, multi‑front scenarios, according to Maariv.
The drill also involves procedures for raising the alert level, mobilizing reserves, and evaluating decision‑making and operational response across command levels.
Separately, the Israeli army announced on Sunday morning a large‑scale exercise set for Monday in the Red Sea city of Eilat and the Arava Valley along the Jordanian border, designed to simulate a surprise attack.
The military said the training will cover scenarios of sudden attack and infiltration into Israeli territory by land, sea, and air.
For decades, Israel has occupied Palestinian territories as well as areas in Lebanon and Syria, refusing to withdraw or permit the creation of an independent Palestinian state in line with relevant UN resolutions.
