Ivory Coast Repatriates Ancient ‘Talking Drum’ After Century-Long Absence

A historically significant ‘talking drum’ looted by French forces in 1916 has been restored to its Ebrie community home in Ivory Coast following decades of preservation. The Djidji Ayokwe, traditionally used for communication and alert systems, was formally handed back by France in February 2026.
