Despite a late injury to long snapper Ross Matiscik, the Jacksonville Jaguars secured a narrow victory, with contributions from Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni. However, the team is proactively addressing special teams depth by bringing in a new long snapper for their Week 6 game in London.
Head coach Liam Coen confirmed on Monday that an unnamed long snapper is traveling to join the squad ahead of their clash with the Houston Texans.
Matiscik’s shoulder injury during Sunday’s game forced defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton into action. Although Hamilton, who rarely practices snapping, managed a crucial snap for Cam Little’s game-winning 56-yard field goal, the substitution led to inconsistencies, including a missed extra point and difficult snaps that required holder Logan Cooke to make adjustments.
Coen described the situation as chaotic, noting, “There was one he got it down and his foot was a little bit in the way of the spot and at the last possible second, he slightly moved his foot to get out of Cam’s way,” as reported by Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union. “Just chaos for sure.”
The Jaguars also struggled with 13 penalties, turnovers, and questionable goal-line decisions, yet they emerged with an improbable 19-17 win.
