On Sunday against the Vikings, Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs could join an exclusive club in NFL history.
Gibbs has accumulated 5,919 scrimmage yards and 58 scrimmage touchdowns since the Lions selected him in 2023, meaning that if Sunday’s game meets the moment, he could reach 6,000 scrimmage yards and 60 touchdowns in his career. Doing so would make him just the third player in NFL history to reach those marks within his first three NFL seasons.
The others are Denver Broncos Hall of Famer Terrell Davis, who recorded 7,594 scrimmage yards and 61 touchdowns in his first four NFL seasons, and Los Angeles Chargers Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson, who posted 7,921 scrimmage yards and 60 touchdowns in his first four NFL seasons.
Gibbs has posted 890 scrimmage yards this season, putting him on pace for 2,522 yards over 17 games. That would surpass the all-time NFL record of 2,509 scrimmage yards in a season, set by Chris Johnson in 2009.
