Japan’s government compiled a package of emergency measures on Friday to address a recent surge in personal data breaches caused by unauthorized access, responding to mounting public concern over cybersecurity.
The initiative promotes the use of artificial intelligence to identify vulnerabilities in computer systems and establishes several teams of highly skilled specialists to bolster defenses.
Announced at a meeting between Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Digital Minister Sanae Takaichi, and relevant cabinet members, the package follows a directive issued last week after a series of high-profile data leaks resulting from cyberattacks. Among these incidents was a ransomware attack targeting internet service provider GMO Internet Group.
