Jay-Z has unveiled an exciting immersive pop-up experience in London’s Trafalgar Square this week, building on the recent opening of his pop-up shop in Camden.
These twin events have been organised to mark the arrival of the rapper’s monumental ‘JAŸ-Z 30’ world tour in the UK later this week, where he is set to perform two sold-out shows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 4 and 5.
During the performances, he will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his seminal album ‘The Blueprint’, while also honouring three decades since his debut.
Last week (August 27), Jay-Z launched an exclusive JAŸ-Z 30 pop-up experience at the UMusic Shop in Camden. The space featured a curated selection of limited-edition merchandise designed specifically for the UK shows, alongside nightly DJ sets running from 5-7pm.
Confirmed DJs so far include DJ Target, DJ Manny Norté, DJ Semtex, and DJ Esi, with the Camden store remaining open until tomorrow (September 2) at The Stables Market, Chalk Farm Road.
Alongside the Camden store, Jay-Z is now introducing an immersive installation in London’s Trafalgar Square to celebrate his upcoming London performances.
Running from Tuesday September 1 through Saturday September 5, the large-scale installation features vintage televisions that will broadcast classic music videos, performances, and era-specific programming.
The installation aims to transport fans back to 2001 when ‘The Blueprint’ was originally released, while also celebrating the rapper’s three-decade-long influence on the music industry. Exclusive limited-edition merchandise will also be available, mirroring the offering at the Camden location.
The Trafalgar Square experience is open from 11am to 7pm daily until Saturday.
The JAŸ-Z 30 tour launched with three nights at Yankee Stadium in New York City, featuring surprise appearances from Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Usher, Eminem, Nas, Pharrell Williams, Rihanna, Slick Rick, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Teyana Taylor, and numerous other artists.
Following the London dates, the rapper is scheduled to perform in Paris on September 10, before returning to the United States for shows in Los Angeles on October 23 and 24.
Speculation has circulated for some time regarding a potential follow-up to his 2017 album ‘4:44’. However, collaborator Cash Cobain recently dismissed these rumours, stating that the rapper personally confirmed he is “absolutely not dropping an album” in the near future (via Variety).
Jay-Z did recently release a new collaboration with Eminem and Rakim, marking their first joint project in 25 years, and contributed his first original rap verse in four years on a remix of Beyoncé’s ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’.
Additionally, a new docuseries centred on Jay-Z has been confirmed for release on MUBI. The project will feature the rapper reflecting on his catalogue while engaging in conversation with legendary producer Rick Rubin about his life, career, and musical evolution.
