Jeff Tweedy Brings His Own Voice to Twisted Teens’ ‘Wild Connection’

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has shared a cover of Twisted Teens’ “Wild Connection,” a track from the band’s album Blame the Clown, released earlier this year.

Tweedy frequently uses his Substack newsletter to present covers of songs he currently enjoys. In February, he posted an emotional rendition of Cameron Winter’s “Love Takes Miles” for Valentine’s Day and dedicated it to his wife, Susan.

“I’m back from Europe and sharing a song by Twisted Teens,” Tweedy wrote on Substack, noting that he had recommended another of the band’s records recently. “I like a lot of their songs and I like Caspian’s voice. I had trouble not trying to sing like him.”

“That happens with a lot of the voices of singers I like,” he continued. “When I play their songs, I’m trying really hard not to do an imitation. But one of the reasons I do so many cover songs is that I think it’s good to hear something you like and then see what it feels like to try it on, almost like clothes. Sometimes it feels right, sometimes it feels like I’m trying to find a way into sounding like myself.

“On this one, I think I still sound like myself. I actually kind of feel like I maybe sound like a younger version of myself,” he added.

Wilco has announced three Marrakech concerts for March next year, marking the group’s first performances in Africa.

The band’s most recent studio album is 2023’s Cousin, followed the next year by the Hot Sun Cool Shroud EP.

Tweedy has also released Twilight Override, a 30-track triple album that became his fifth solo record. He later joined Hayley Williams, Waxahatchee, Weyes Blood, Rufus Wainwright, Maren Morris and others as guests during Bleachers’ Newport Folk Festival 2025 set.

He has more recently contributed a New York Times crossword filled with references to David Bowie, the Sex Pistols and others, and appeared as a surprise guest during Dry Cleaning’s set at Green Man Festival.

In a 2022 interview with NME for its Soundtrack of My Life series, Tweedy said he could no longer listen to Wilco’s “Shake It Off,” from the album Sky Blue Sky.

“It’s just one of those songs that I just feel like I could do so much better now,” he said. “I just can’t listen to it. I probably would be happy playing it if somebody in the band wanted to or we got a request, but as far as the recorded version goes, I won’t listen!”
