ISLAMABAD: In Islamabad, JI chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman intensified political talks to address the persistent crisis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He met separately with PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan, National Assembly opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai, and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The discussions took place amid a worsening situation in AJK and following a mediation proposal from the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). The PTI delegation included former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, former AJK premier Abdul Qayyum Niazi, and ex‑AJK Assembly speaker Khawaja Farooq.

Opposition leader Achakzai was accompanied by Tehreek-i-Tahaffuz Ayeen‑i‑Pakistan leaders Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and spokesperson Akhundzada Hussain Yousafzai.

Speaking alongside Gohar, Hafiz Naeemur emphasized the national concern over the AJK situation, underscoring that the Kashmir issue remains integral to Pakistan’s long‑standing national cause and must not be overlooked.

Calls for dialogue, restoration of essential supplies to ease tensions

The JI chief presented two possible paths: allowing the crisis to deteriorate further or, through responsible political leadership, “putting out the fire.” He warned that a point of no return could cause severe damage.

He noted that while the government and protesters may hold different positions, the root causes of public anger need addressing. “Citizens become frustrated when their mandates are denied,” he said.

Gohar welcomed Hafiz Naeemur and his delegation, affirming that all political forces agree the Kashmir cause must not suffer. He highlighted the necessity of restoring essential commodity supplies and expressed commitment to collaborative political engagement.

After meeting Achakzai, Hafiz Naeem stressed the importance of allowing peace to proceed, cautioning that unresolved tensions could widen divisions that grow harder to bridge. Achakzai reiterated constitutional guarantees for peaceful protest, noting a widening rift between the government and JAAC.

Khokhar added that the entire country shares concern about the AJK situation and praised JI’s mediation efforts.

During his meeting with former Prime Minister Abbasi, Hafiz Naeem recounted that the JI had initiated consultations with senior politicians, the government, and other stakeholders to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
