Jill Biden said she feared her husband was experiencing a stroke while watching President Joe Biden stumble through a disastrous debate that ultimately ended his 2024 re‑election bid, according to a recent interview.
“I was terrified, because I had never seen Joe like that before or since,” Jill Biden told CBS News in an interview slated to air on Sunday.
Joe Biden’s shaky, mumbling and occasionally confused delivery during his June 2024 debate with Donald Trump intensified concerns about his fitness for a second term.
At 81, Biden stumbled over his words, stared blankly, and lost his train of thought while attempting to counter his bombastic opponent.
Immediately after the debate, Jill Biden praised her husband’s performance, telling him before a crowd of supporters, “Joe, you did an excellent job. You answered every question and knew all the facts.”
Biden’s attempts to explain his performance and reassure voters that he could serve another four years did little to calm public concerns.
